On May 8th, 2025, the Seminyak Village social media team took a special trip to North Bali in Banyupoh, Singaraja. The purpose is to discover the story behind one of Bali’s hidden gems: the Horiko South Sea Pearl.
Here is the journey of how Horiko pearls were formed:
Breeding Begins
Pearl shells cultivation starts with selective breeding from fertilization to obtaining high-quality shells seeds.

Lab Phase
In the lab, baby shells are monitored until they reach 30–35 days old, growing to just about 1 mm in size.

Nucleus and Saibo Placement
“Saibo” is a piece of mantle tissue taken from donor oysters. This tissue helps determine the color and quality of the pearl’s nacre (natural coating). The Nucleus, a small round bead, acts as the core of the pearl. It’s implanted alongside the Saibo to initiate nacre layering.

Ocean Immersion
The shells are returned to the sea for about a year, growing to 7–9 cm before undergoing the delicate nucleus implantation.

Pearls are harvested once the shellfish has reached the desired size and quality, usually after 18-24 months.

This collaboration between Seminyak Village and PT Horiko Abadi is part of the “Made in Bali” initiative, a campaign that honors local makers, supports homegrown businesses, and invites visitors to discover the authentic heart of Bali.
Horiko South Sea Pearls, made in the ocean of North Bali, are available at Seminyak Village Mall. You can find a special selection of their pieces in-store.
